Rate Increase

CHALK BLUFF WATER SUPPLY CORPORATION

RATE INFORMATION

As discussed at the last two Annual Membership meetings, the CBWSC Board of Directors has identified a need to increase water rates. The board considers these permanent water conservation rates, and water conservation will be a way of life from now on.

The Southern Trinity Water Conservation District has notified us verbally (written notice end of March) that we have exceeded our pumping permit for the third year, this year being 6.07%. They have indicated that we will be required to send them an action plan prepared by our engineer to correct the pumping violation. We know, in general, what needs to be done, and these new water conservation rates are the first step. We have elected to implement the new rates in two phases to give members more time to adjust their water usage to the new rates, which are very significant increases in some instances.

The average household water use in Texas is about 9000 gallons per month. On the average approximately 80% our members use less than 10,000 gallons/month and will see minimal impact. Specifically, members using less than 5000 gallons will see no increase in their bill, and those using less than 10,000 gallons will see an increase of approximately $4 per month. After that, the water rates will increase significantly until the highest tier in Phase 1 (Over 50,000 gallons) will see approximately a 25% increase. Once Phase 2 water rates are implemented, those members using more than 75,000 gallons per month will see increases of approximately 45% over current rates. High-use members or any member who have concerns, don't hesitate to contact the office, and a Director will visit with you personally.

The staff is only implementing the policy of the Board of Directors. Please consider that in any conversations you have with them. Phase 1 of the new rates will be applied to water consumption beginning about mid-March and reflected on May 1st bill. Phase 2 of the new rates will be applied to water consumption, beginning not earlier than mid-July and reflected on the September 1st bill. We are posting “not sooner than” so the board will have the option to delay Phase 2 if conditions warrant.
